Timothy Cook, Director of Bands
Chair, Department of Visual and Performing Arts
Timothy Cook serves as Director of Bands and chairperson for the Visual and Performing Arts at Charlotte Catholic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally from Tennessee, Mr. Cook obtained his Bachelor of Music Education degree from The University of Tennessee with graduate studies in wind conducting under Dr. Gary Sousa.
Since his appointment at Charlotte Catholic, Mr. Cook has led the band to accomplished international performances in Dublin and Limerick, Ireland. During the 2015 Ireland tour, the band's performance in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade was awarded top honors with the Best Band Overall award. In 2019, the symphonic band’s performance at the International Exchange Concert hosted by St. Patrick’s Cathedral received high acclaim from international music educators and by members of the Irish Tourism Board. In 2016, Mr. Cook and the Charlotte Catholic Marching Band performed in the All-American McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the band’s first nationally televised performance.
Mr. Cook is a four-time MACS Education Foundation grant recipient and coordinates the Charlotte Catholic Artist-in-Residence Program, for which these funds are used. In 2016, he was awarded a Principal’s Grant in honor of the band’s performance in the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He instituted the first Band Leadership Camp, which provides leadership training to senior band members and the first Symphonic Band Camp, which provides a clinic-like experience from industry leaders. In addition, he has had the distinct honor of hosting our nation’s most talented military musicians. The United States Air Force Band (D.C.), The United States Army Field Band (D.C.), and The United State Navy Band (D.C.) have all performed for the Charlotte Catholic community.
Mr. Cook was the 2017 recipient of the Sister Paulette Faculty Award for Outstanding Community Service, voted on by the community of Charlotte Catholic and the 2018 he was Verbesey Award winner for Excellence in Education, Charlotte Catholic’s highest faculty honor.
His students have consistently placed in South Central District Bandmaster Association’s All-District clinic and in the North Carolina Bandmasters Association’s All-State Clinic. His students have gone to study at the University of Michigan, Florida State University, James Madison, NYU, and Berklee College of Music.
In his spare time, Mr. Cook enjoys wine tastings, CrossFit, and is a proud member of Leadership Charlotte class 40.
Jacob Bohan, Assistant Director of Bands
Holy Trinity Middle School & Charlotte Catholic High School
Jacob Bohan is a native of Charlotte and earned his Bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2019. While attending, he studied Percussion with Rick Dior, and Music Education and Philosophy with Dr. Evelyn Orman and Dr. Jennifer Whitaker. Jacob also held multiple principal positions in Chamber, Wind, Symphonic, and Jazz ensembles. He served as Percussion Director at William A. Hough High School from 2016- 2020, and as a Quad Technician at Paradigm Percussion since 2018. Jacob performs regularly in the Charlotte area, and teaches privately throughout North Carolina; studying Jazz, Marching Percussion, and Orchestral Percussion with his students.
Dr. Stanley F. Michalski, MACS Instrumental Music Coordinator
Stanley F. Michalski, Jr., Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Music and Conductor of Bands at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, forged a distinguished career spanning fifty-five years as a conductor, educator, performer and clinician-adjudicator and active member of national and international music associations. Currently, Dr. Michalski is serving as Coordinator of Instrumental music for the Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina and Adjunct Professor of Music at Winthrop University where he serves as Associate Conductor of the Carolina Wind Orchestra. Michalski received his B.S. Degree, cum laude, in Music Education from the Pennsylvania State University in 1956. In 1958, he was awarded a Master of Education Degree and in 1966 earned the Doctor of Education Degree from the Pennsylvania State University.
In 1973, Dr. Michalski was elected into the membership of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association, the professional association of master conductors and musicians. Dr. Michalski has served as tuba soloist, clinician-adjudicator, and guest conductor for All-State-Honor Band Festivals in forty-five states. He has also served as guest conductor/soloist with the U.S. Air Force Band, the U.S. Marine Band, the U.S. Army Band (Pershing’s Own), the Armed Forces Bicentennial Band and the U.S. Army Field Band.
